In the last four months, our personal and professional lives have changed in ways we could never imagine.

The disruptions have been surreal, impacting how we go about our days and how we work.

In a way, one of the positives has been that we can leverage much of the negative implications into a powerful lesson for learning how we can adapt for the better.

According to a research report from Next For Me, many interesting trends have resulted in how we think about work and how we’ve planned our return to work.

  • 73% surveyed say they’re very successful working at home
  • 97% of North American office workers worked from home more than 1 day a week during the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, 67% had not worked remotely regularly.
  • Most interestingly, and not surprisingly, people surveyed felt they work equally well at home as they do in the office, but still are satisfied with in-person collaboration.

Even though the pandemic has been disruptive, there are signs all around us that the ways in which we work will forever be changed, some of them for the better. It’s also a way for us to shine a positive light on other important issues or decisions that loom on our horizon.

Whether prompted by the pandemic or not, a lot of people are considering what their next steps are. Whether you’re winding down your professional career, looking for a new job, or simply deciding what to do during your retirement, all of these difficult decisions have something in common. They can be answered by gaining access to a fresh perspective and using practical techniques to break through barriers and gain the endurance and positive-thinking needed to succeed.

💡 What’s Next For You?

You already know that here at FAR, we are most invested in helping you find innovative and exciting ways to think about and plan for retirement. Yet, one of the biggest challenges we hear consistently from our community is that they don’t know where to start.

That’s why we’re excited to partner with Next For Me— an organization whose mission is to help people like you confidently leap into your next step.

Founded by Silicon Valley veterans Jeff Tidwell and Carole McManus,  Next For Me’s goal is to help people articulate their next big goal and design a practical plan to accomplish it.

🌳Using New Perspectives

In their newest book, Next For Me: A Guide To Change For Everyone, Tidwell and McManus prepare people for big changes by focusing first on simple exercises and techniques and then provide tactical things needed to stay successful.

Two such techniques are fresh perspectives and visual mapping.

  • Use fresh perspectives to help alter your beliefs. You may have entrenched opinions about something because you’ve mulled it over a hundred times or done it a certain way for decades. But you can bring new light to it by talking about it out loud with friends, writing something down, or creating a visualization.
  • Learn how mapping can help you get a bird’s eye view of the things you need to get started on your goals.
